2MY TZR250 Wont start!
« on: May 28, 2010, 05:18:57 PM »
I've just bought a 2MY aus spec.
It has been sitting around for a year or 2 and i cant get it running.
I sprayed a bit of carby cleaner in air intake and starts first go.
So the carbs have been removed and i've cleaned them put them back on and still the same story.

Any help would be appreciated

I take it that petrol is getting to the carbs?

did you check the fuel tap as it's a vacuum type i.e. it will close (well it should do....) when the engine's not running...
Put it on prime, that will bypass the close-off valve.

Yeah, petrol is getting to the carbs, but don't think its going from carbs to engine? How can both carbs broken at once?
I even bypassed the fuel tap. Straight from the tank to the carbs to test it and still didnt fire up.
Im thinking about maybe taking the carbies to a specialist to have them checked out properly

you did say you cleaned the carbs, did you check that the choke valves are indeed opening when you pull the choke lever?

If it's not the choke then take them apart again and make sure that you check every jet for blockages,
don't forget to take out the emulsion pipes and check/clean them as they tend to be forgotten when cleaning the carbs.
Also make sure that all the air / fuel passages in the carb bodies are open, use some compressed air to check.
Check the float needles, they might be stuck and not opening properly or not at all

As long as you thoroughly clean and check the carbs they should work.
