Here is the pic of the positioning of TPS sensor,
u guys think I should move it towards middle postioning as Louis suggested? (looks to me that someone had played around with it-no sign of white marks)

Hi Louis i seem to have won with my little baby i spent some time really tunning it and double checking everything i dropper the needle position and how have a bike that does not bogg down any more what a relief i managed to take her for a long run over the weekend about 150 km she went like a dream not a miss or a hick cup no oil or fuel leaks nothing  am very proud of here at the moment, but what i have established is that the TPS on my bike is not working or so i think how does one check it,i took it off and started the bike reved it and let it idle but never saw the little shaft move as i then assembled it again and road it but does not matter where i set it it does nothing to the bike is this serious or what can i do to get it working again and thanks for your help

BY the way i managed to get 195 km/ph on top end quite easy is this good or should i have gotten more

Many Thanks;Deon

NOTE;I will be uploading some pics of the bike later in the week for all to see

Hello Deon,

It is good to know your bike is running well.

Your tps sensor will not move because its a sensor it measure your throttle position.

you don't start the bike just leaf it on contact, then play with your throttle. you should here some clicks from the air sensenoids.
If that is not working take of the tps sensor and try to move it by hand and hear if you can hear some clicks.
Do you have the air sensenoits? it on the left side off the engine with some hoses and weiring.

It is important that your tps sensor is working, it controls the airjets and the cdi maps
it is not a real big problem wen you have your tps sensor standing in one off the late 3 ignitioncurves but wen you have it stand in the first curve it can hurt your engine.

be sure that your tps sensor is working, try if you can measure it.

hitting the 195kmh with a stock 3ma is good, but a bit strange. normally it will go no futher than 180 kmh because the revlimeter kicks in by 180 kmh. perhaps your engine has a max box in frond, ore they taken out the drum inside your speedometer. so it will not give its signal to the cdi.

Hello rz350,

The TPS setup is something i never find some information off.
But I think the max and min adjustment is not so far that the tps sensor will skip a intire map from the ignition.
So slightly off the middle should be fine i think.

But we can ask if the tzr250 3ma riders want to look at the position off the tps sensor.
and see what is the best position.

Here is one from the original workshop manual

It is the best i can find.

They seem to be set from the factory in quite different postions judging by the different sets of 3MA carbs I've seen so I'm not sure that there is a genereric 'best' position for all bikes? It looks as though they are set at the factory on the actual bike the carbs are fitted to maybe?

The TPS seems to influence both ignition and the opertaion of the air jet solenoids. I've no idea which of those requires them to be set up most precisely though? The variable air jets just seem to be an emissions thing and I don't run them at all (just a single fixed air jet). I do still have the TPS hooked up to the CDI for now, but I may try some tests with it un hooked or locked in different positions as I want to try some different carbs on my 3MA as the next stage of its development so I will probably lose the TPS completely.

Like 32-36mm Lectrons with PowerJet?
I think that would be the best option for racing and 3MA, since Lectrons do not have main jets at all, by turning a knob you can increase or decrease jet size numbers, i heard they are not easy to tune , but once u learn how it really pays off...
I got one lying around that I bought just for fun, also the cool part is that bowls are see through.
There is good and bad things in flatside and roundslide cabs, from what I read Lectrons combine good things from both- their slide is really weird...anyway dont remember now, but u should definitely read about them if you dont know yet.

Warwickb,

On a Japanese site they have moved the tps sensor. They dit it with some resistors to get a ignitioncurve between the first end second one. They removed the speedlimeter too.

One this site: http://www.smkymnky.com/VoS/R1Z/electric/3ma_cdi.html

(You can translate it and click somewhere below to get the final conclusion. (it is protected to be sure that you understand the consequent))
What do you think, it is worth trying i think

It looks like they getting good results, perhaps a 3 degrees off flywheel key will do the same if you use the last ignition curve

Yes, he's running that on a R1-Z though not a 3MA. Not sure if it would be directly relevant to the 3MA? I couldn't see any dyno data either when looking at that site?

To be honest I'm pretty happy with the power that the stock 01 box makes on my set-up really (dyno's posted in other threads). When I try different carbs I'll just do a few experiments with the TPS locked in different positions and see whet the dyno says. I'd like to try a 3MA-00 Cdi on the dyno too though to see how they compare but I don't have one just now. Be a while before it gets some different carbs in any case I expect. Too many projects, too little motivation and skill, sadly :( ???

Correct They test it on a RZ-1. The results were on this site:
http://www.geocities.jp/me2sthp/

They tested on a RZ-1 diverend cdi's including the 3ma00 cdi and the 3ma01 cdi (all the same day same bike)
I think there is a small different between the 00 and the 01 cdi.
If he connected the powebox(the trick withe the resistors) the 00cdi has almost the same hp as the 01 cdi.
So I'm thinking that the 3ma-01 cdi is the best cdi fore power.

I know what you mean with too many projects, they always take more time (money)than estimated.
But cheer up, your 3ma has 63+ HP (That does inspire people, including me) ;)

Hi Louis thanks for all the info, but i must correct what i said the other day Sorry it was not 190km/phr but it should have been 175 km/phr sorry typing era,i have still not understood what is the function of the tps sensor my bike has not got the air solenoids fitted will this make a difference but yes the bike is going like a dream still battling a bite to up load some picks have you got any contact where you are for some spares mainly body parts and some engine parts as here isn SA we cannot seem to get spares all our spares have to be imported and costing a fortune.

Many Thanks;Deon

Hello Deon,

OK than your rev limiter works ;) You can take the metal drum out off your speedometer, it will gain you +/-15kmh.
But not more power.

You have no air solenoids? do you have the two hoses connected to the carbs? if is a yes.
you can put a main jet into the hose (one jet fore on carb so in total 2 jets) and see how she is running

If you don't have the hoses, you can connect the hoses one the carbs. they are in frond of the carbs (if you sit on your bike, than they are on the left side of a carb) L and the R carb the connection are on the same place)
the connection is a +/-5mm pipe.

All my parts are coming from Ebay, I don't have a special adres for parts. same here parts from America and other i need to pay the import tax too

louis,
The TPS sensor, I can hear it click about half -2/3 of a throttle opened, it should only click once right? Or should it click once at 25% of throttle 50% second time etc?

Hi rz350,

You can not hear the tps sensor, you can only hear the air solenoids (air jets) clicking.

Her you have the map of a 3ma00 cdi (3ma01 cdi is different)

If you here the airjets clicking then it is all right, the cdi is controlling them, you can't change that.
only make sure that they both work.
one contact the airjets has a 12V and the are controlled by the mass signal from the cdi unit.

Hi Louis yes i have had some fun this weekend with the bike i have no managed to get all the fairings to the spray painter so i expect it will be looking quite good in a few weeks time, one question is is it possible to send me some pics regarding the air pipe conversion as previously explained as i have the foggiest idea what i am looking for and when it took the bike out for a run i only managed to get +- 85km from a full tank of gas =15lt this i think is quite odd and the fuel consumption is not right bare in mind the bike goes quite well,i am still getting alot of fuel and oil residue coming out out the pipes this indicating to me that i am still over fueling and so say the fuel consumption????? could you give me some pointers in this manner as i have the needle position in the centre clip position.

Many Thanks;Deon

I have a friend here in sa that has a mint condition 3xv and we did a run together this weekend we both gave it some stick and were doing some awsume top speeds i was quite surprised to see my old 3ma sticking with this bike i am impressed.
