Hey all. Well, the mechanic found the problem, he thinks, on my overflowing carb. Seems there is a rubber seal in the petcock, about an inch round, he says, with four holes in it, that is missing a piece of rubber and apparently this is preventing the vacuum shut off from operating properly and that is allowing the gas to continue to flow through the petcock when the bike is shut off.

For the time being he has placed an inline shut off valve I can turn off the fuel completely, but ideally I'd like to replace that seal so that I don't have to risk forgetting to turn off that valve and flooding the engine.

Does anyone know what this seal is and where I might find a replacement?

You can get the disc from NRP, cant remember how much.

Also got the float valve assemblies from them at the same time and it sorted out my leaking fuel problems.

Disc? Can you tell me what exactly I should ask for so I get the right thing? Was the description in the post above enough to be sure? I am only giving you a second hand description from what the mechanic told me. He didn't take a picture and it's all reassembled now.

They will know what you mean if you call them.

This part may be the problem but I suspect the small o ring which the valve seats onto is going to be your main culprit. Whilst you have the petcock appart its worth changing and giving the spring a stretch as well. NRP mentioned a while back that they were getting diaphrams made as well.

All this has been described in detail in the post refered to above.

Seems to be a common problem.

I have rebuilt mine and it seals just fine but I ended up with fuel starvation with wide open throttle as I dont think the vacume is opening the valve enough.  So I run the bike on prime and turn it to on when its not running, basicaly using the petcock as a normal on off fuel tap. Not had any problems since

NRP will have the complete petc**k rebuild kits in 4 to 6 weeks, Andy says. So in the meantime this little gem is installed to be 100% I can get the gas shut off... provided I remember! (Got a note fixed to the tacho to remind me).

And today is the big ride. 120 miles to a friend's parent's farm and back. I ask them to put diapers on all the cattle so I don't have to smell that awful cow pooey smell the whole time I'm there, but I don't think they'll go to that much trouble... stinky cattle.

Should be a really nice ride with some nice scenery and roads. I'll have pics posted to mytzr.com later tonight.

Hey Ash, you should "un-blacklist" the word petc**k. It's not like we're all talking about "pet-penises" here :)

Allrighty !

After several years of no real answer..............how about a real address and part number a guy in the USA can order a disc and all other rubber parts to completely rebuild a fuel petcock for a 1987 1KT please !

I need the FULL address and the part numbers of the place to order these parts.........and how about a USD price with shipping and everything ?

I have waited 5 years to get a honest answer to this dilema !!!!   LOL !!!! ;D

NRP is the carb people I just got complete float valve assemblies from and they say they'll have petcock (stop censoring me! I didn't say pet-penis, goddamit!) rebuild kits in 4 to 6 weeks, now probably 3 to 5.

You can email Andy at andy@nrp-carbs.com and the mailing address on the package I got from them is

NRP, Unit 2 Station Approach
Victoria Station, Manchester M3 1NY
0161 832 8646

I have no idea what that last three part, 11 digit number is, but it's on the envelope, or for that matter what 'M3 1NY' means either. Is that a British zip code? Perhaps some of our friends across the pond can explain how that breaks down.

Skip

M3 1NY is indeed 'our' equivalent of your zip code, known as the postcode.

0161 832 8646 is NRP's phone number (if dialling from within the UK). From the states, you'll have to add the international dialling code to the front end.

The way the 11 digit number appeared on the envelope it had the look of a shipping tracking number or something, not usually the place a phone number would be.

"Zip code" is sort of the old exclusionary term here in the states. As a web programmer and working on web sites, even if it's US only, most web forms nowadays will say "Postal Code".

Boy, is this ever off-topic for a TZR forum!
