TZR250 3XV poor running after about 5 minutes
« on: July 22, 2010, 08:53:28 AM »
Hey i own besides my 3MA5 and 3MA1 a TZR250 3XV which i purchased a few months ago...

When starting the machine runs perfectly... only once i have driven about 4 miles the engine fails to deliver power due to maybe carburation problems.... after shutting the bike off for about 10 minutes it again drives ok for 5 miles and than the problem starts again...
The bike has difficulties to rev up...

It seams like the machine is getting no fuel or maybe too much fuel... starting at a traffic light means playing a lot with the clutch to avoid the bike from stopping.. no fun to drive...

My understanding is that the carburators work fine...  Who has an idea what it could be... ? I will drive it for a while with the tank cap open to see if this solves the problem..

Hi,

Try to drive with tank cap open as you said.
On my DTR200, the air intake of the tank was blocked and the bike was OK for 1 km or so then stop like going out of fuel.

Also check the little filters in the carb fuel inlets.

Yup, sounds like clogged carb fuel filters to me too. Pull the fuel hoses off the carb stubs and winkle out the little filters. If they are full of tank rust and debris you can be pretty confident that you have found your problem. Clean them up and all should be well. Hopefully...

Warwickb,
Can you please explain me where exactly those small filters in the carbs are located in 3MA, because I cannot locate them.
For reference:

Directly in the brass fuel intake stub pictured above. By the look of it thats the filter's nylon retaining ring just poking out of the stub (physically they are like a small inverted traffic cone). Get hold of the nylon rim with some pliers and ease it out to clean. If the filters are not in place then they will have been lost over time. You can buy new ones but they are not strictly necessary if your tank is clean and/or the tank tap filter is secure.
