upgraded fork springs

As above anyone had any experience?

Cant seem to find anyone advertising them never mind selling them but i presume someone must do.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi.
About 15 years ago i had some 2MA fork springs made by a company called Southern Springs based in New Milton, Hampshire.
I took in a standard fork spring and asked them to make 4 springs the same dimensions but 20% stiffer, I was using a pair of them in my race bike for 4 seasons to good effect, it solved the bottoming out problem I had been getting, needed slightly heavier oil if I remember correctly.

If you can find a spring maker in your area you could do the same thing.

At the time it cost me about £75 for initial development and making of the 4 springs, if you can get orders for more springs the costs should be cheaper per set.

I think at the time White power made springs for the 2MA but they where really expensive.

Hagon Sell them and i put a pair in my 2ma about 16 years ago and have a pair in my current 1kt fitted about 4-5 years ago and appear to work ok.

cheers i have gone for some of the ones from germany, i will let you know how i get on with them.

Mine have always seemed a bit soft  somehow and now i have fitted wider wheels with radials it tends to bottom out under braking more and skip.

Mind you it could just be that im not as light as i was  ;D

OK i haven't experimented i have just dropped them in. I had to leave the spacers out as the springs are way longer and remove the c clips so the adjusters would turn. I haven't checked air gaps or anything and the preload is 3 out not tried changing that either but they are a great improvement.
The springs i had in were out of a 9km import so had done around 6000 miles.
The spec is brembo wide spokes front and rear with a 110 gpr dunlop front and a 150 qualifier rear. The bike is so much more stable on the brakes etc its unreal the back end feels tired now which it isnt the shock is good. It feels as planted as my exup 1000 i use everyday from first impressions although i havent been out in the wet and will now probably out handle my Kr if i ever get round to putting that together. Next step is taper head bearings as they worked brilliant on my gt750 kettle and RD400 and LC's

I would say if your going to change anything stuff tuning the engine and sort the running gear, i will probably do the same with the kr1s if ever it gets that far as i presume it will be evil handling like the ones i had in the past.

No idea if the hagon ones are better perhaps someone else can shed light on that as i havent tried them but wirth ones seem brilliant so far. im about 13/14 stone by the way for comparison.

That's great info John!  I had a look at those German ones on Ebay.  When I sent the Yami specs and asked them how or why their's were better than OE..they never answered.  So I thought it was dubious?  I just added spacers I cut on my lathe to increase the stiffness of the OE springs.  It helped.  I race my 2ma.  Could you send me info of your supplier and what you paid etc.  Thx

I'm abou 100 kg all dressed up and use Racetech springs...0.85 kg/mm.  They're 38mm dia I think and are a standard spring from Racetech (i.e not TZR specific).  Just needed to make up some spacers as they're considerably shorter than the stock spring.
I replaced the Hagon progressive springs that I put in there a few years ago.  Difference is like night and day with stock air gaps and good quality 15 wt oil.
Hagons gave about 40mm of sag even with the preload wound right in (which made the bike feel too high at the front and made the steering...interestingly vague).  The Racetechs give about 25mm and are doing a fine job.
Its a race bike and not used at Castle Combe so can't comment on what it'd be like on the road.
Will be investing in some Racetech emulators over the winter to see how they do.

If you want the absolute in front ends, Maxton will do you a set for about £400 - complete rebuild with rebound adjustment. Expensive but sweet.
