Aprilia frt. cowl to 3XV
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:30:21 AM »
Has anybody tried the above ? My 3xv front provides very little protection from wind blast, i think even a dbl.bubble would be only a tiny gain. I was thinking maybe a fibreglass race cowl then cut the headlight thru ? Or maybe a complete RS 250 frt bolted to the headstock (more expensive)
Or maybe there is another frt  I haven't thought of. ;D

I stumbled across a set of TZ fairings for sale on the web that were modified to fit the 3XV, the company is in Japan.

I would post a link but my main laptop has had a heart failure so I'm on my back up.......... couple of days and I'll have the other one going again.

 Good stuff Ash,
what I forgot to mention before was when I lay down on the tank the front gets too light & nervous.   I know my forks need a bit of sorting, but is there a way around this problem ?          I only weigh 72 kgs.    Steering damper is just a band aid,        Lifting the rear might place some more weight on the frt ?
 Any ideas anyone ?

A stock engined 3XV on good stock suspension (and settings if adjustable) should be pretty unflappable really. You can get them to shake their heads a bit over bumps under power when they are making a fair lump more power than stock - especially if you've tipped them on their nose a bit for track work, but I don't even run a steering damper on the track bike myself - though there are times I think it could do with one really...

If the geometry is stock and it's making less than 60bhp though and you need a steering damper to keep the front in line I'd think there's something quite seriously amiss there. If you raise the rear you will most likely compound the problem as that will quicken the steering yet further. Much better to trace and fix the problem I'd say.
Still smoking...

I Agree with Warwick, stock chassis set up you should have a very stable bike regardless of your weight.
You say when you lay on the tank it gets worse, well that is putting more weight over the front end, so lifting the rear wont help.

Get the forks sorted.
Make sure your rear wheel is in alignment on the chain adjusters.
Make sure you do not have a buckled wheel.
Make sure your tyres a suitable pair and in good condition correct pressure etc.

Hope this helps.
