Petrol proof paint inUK?
« on: September 04, 2010, 12:18:59 AM »
Hi!

Does anybody know of a source for petrol & oil proof paint available in the Uk? Colour wanted, white, & smallish  amount. - for use inside a 2 stroke crankcase.

 Have a good weekend !

  Cheers,

    Jim

Hi Jim, thanks for popping down from your home planet to pay us a visit...

Apart from the obvious 'why', I'm not sure there is such a thing, considering the environment. The main thing, as in most painting, would be the preparation, possibly looking at alocrom surface treatment rather than the more common etch primer.

Possibly look here:

But, why ?

I know that, back in the "good old days", Sheffield used to be the capital of "The Republic of South Yorkshire", last bastion against Thatcherism, but hardly a "home planet" ? !
I have looked @ Sperex/PJ1  VHT, & while it does offer the possibility of being petrol proof, to obtain that, you need to cure it @ temps. far higher than my gas cooker can achieve.
As for why? - I'm playing around with the idea of thermal barriers (& preferably as cheaply as possible)

How about epoxy paint? - Does anybody think that might work?
If so, does anybody know where I can get it?  Can it be applied by brush?
