Pretty sure it's a heat shield for the air boxes. Can't say I've actually seen one but that would be my first guess.

Hey Paul and welcome,

You can swap almost all engine parts except the crank from the TZ250B without major work. The obvious parts are cylinders and pipes you will need to find a suitable CDI too.
Unlike most other 2T road bikes of the era the 3XV is heavily restricted with many little bits that need to be changed.

Ash.

All the Japanese domestic market 250 race reps from '89 on were restricted, Ash. The post 93 ones are even worse, being capped at just 40 ponies...

If it's an R model, then SP spec porting and some good pipes will see you to high 50s with the stock 91/2 -00 CDi (I've not tested with later CDis so can't comment on those). It'll probably feel a bit peaky though compared to using a Sugo CDi.
Still smoking...

Don't get me wrong the 3XV is easy enough it just has a few more restrictions in the R & RS models than other bikes.

A search of the forum will reveal you need to more than just plug it in, I'm not 100% on the specifics as I've never done it.

You can find tuners in the Vendors section HERE

James H from Krazy Kat has done a fair bit of work on the 3XV as well.

If your planning on using guillotine power valve type cylinders you can use a 3xv-9A or 3xv- 75 CDI both are RC Sugo boxes.
I saw 1 of each and a 3xv-CO box on yahoo Japan not too long ago.

Paul.... I'm happy to do some port work for you, I'll PM you some details in a minute.

Whilst I very occasionally make pipes, the difficulties involved means your best option would be to get a set of Jim Lomas pipes (available from fondseca amongst others http://www.fondseca.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=134&products_id=575)

These along with my mid tune would get you pretty close to 60hp. The sugo cdi would then give you a better/bigger power spread and with the full SP port spec would get you up to around 63+hp.

It's a pity no-one else took the time to contribute to this thread, a potential wealth of knowledge slipped by? :blank:
