Hi,

Yes it will work but open rpm and full opening rpm will be the 350 values not the 250 ones.

Thankyou, I am using an RD500 one at the moment but have been offered a 350 one which I want to keep as a spare.

Funny thing is that the PVs on the 2MA packed up on saturday, the servo didn't function when you turned the ignition on and the bike felt strangled at over 8500rpm.

Turned the ignition on today and the PVs turned so maybe the electrical connections need a clean?

Possibly. I had a similar problem when my electrics got wet. The PV would only work when the engine was warmed up (I know, strange). Was a nightmare trying to ride up hill on a cold engine as the PV was fully open, so I had no low down power and I couldn't give it any revs.

Over time though they dried out and I've not had any problems since.

While they may fit you will have the valves opening at diferent times.

RD500 start going to open 6150rpm and fully open at 7950 rpm
31k starts at 5550rpm and fully open at 9450rpm
FII starts at 6000rpm to 10200rpm open
TZR starts to open at 5850rpm and fully open at 10050rpm

So the best one to use to get the curve nearly the same would be an FII one

Hi,

Check if the powervalves move freely when you remove the cables.

If not you could try some WD40 on both ends.

Well nearly anyway

It will open a bit later and not fully open until 10200rpm - trouble is the TZR will be getting out of puff at this stage. I doubt you will notice much difference on the road though but if you can get a TZR one.

What on earth is it like with an RD500 one on it?

Well, I was told it was for an RD500, will have a look at it in a minute and check any part numbers I find.

To be honest it felt fine. Bike would sprint to 10,000 rpm pretty quickly and felt like it had decent low end power for a 2 smoke. I did notice on saturday with it being dead that over 8500rpm it felt strangled. Going to clean up the terminals in the wiring in a sec. The bike doesn't see a drop of rain now I have it but it has been quite cold and I wonder if this has affected the connections somehow or the controller itself.

Trying to find a TZR250 2MA one is getting to be very hard nowadays, trying to find one last year was damn near impossible and those that came up on ebay for example fetched top money. There was a NOS one that I missed for £150 but to be honest, was too expensive as you are getting into zeeltronic money there.

The PVs move freely when you bypass the controller and power the servo directly off the battery, but I will be testing that again in a moment as well just to be thorough.

If you find a part number I can check it against the one fitted to my RD500 to see if its the same

or try this lot

There is nothing listed on the actual plastic box protecting the controller but the controller board itself has the part number 34X-85841-01 and the long black chip has the number 34X-85842-00.

Apparantly (according to this thread http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=28185) it was a popular mod to put the RD500 YPVS controller onto the 2MA.

I have got the original dead controller somwhere so if I find it I will check the numbers on that as well.

Hi,

TDR250 is like TZR250 2XT or R1-Z, no YPVS box the CDI drives the YPVS servo motor.

No sure if the stroke of the RD500, RD350 is the same as the TZR250.
You may need to check the cable setting to get the valve fully opened after the cleaning cycle and maybe the closed position will differ.

Just found the duff controller and the board and chip part number are the same as the supposed RD500 one currently on the bike ??? . The plastic box does say something like 1KT 01 and then 9MY (I think). I guess Yamaha just change some of the resistors or something to modify the voltages given to the servo for the PV position.

Hi,

The main board is the same and the modifications are the configuration of the rpm values done putting to ground or VCC some different "leg" of the integrated circuit.

I've lost the web page explaining how to modify the pcb board to acheive the same result as the BDK modifications. I could check in French RD500 Club magazine if I can find a paper on this if someone wants.

Would be good if you could find the article. I would be interested in the RD500 specific mods to have a play with the controller on my 500 bike
