naked style 2MA project
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:17:55 PM »
This is my tzr naked project which I am doing on my every visit to Greece.
It is a 1KT tzr with powder coated frame, rebuilt engine, slight tuning, with zxr250 front end, custom support to accept on top yoke 1kt clocks and an aprillia RX50 headlight.
I haven't done much as far as the cosmetics is concerned but I will next time.
For the Easter I have to put the banana swing arm from my tzr125rr which needs some mods in order to fit...
With the new swing arm I will be able to fit the brembo rear wheel with 140 tire.
Also, as seen in one of the pictures, the previous owner of the bike had the rear fairings mod'ed to look like a GSXR tail and I am thinking to keep this look!(ignore the stupid color!)
It will be mainly black

in order to use raised handlebars you need to replace the throttle and the clutch cables with longer ones.

Hi,

Nice bike even if I'm not a fan of naked bike.

The front end is from a Kawasaki ? ZXR400 ?

I always liked the look of naked bikes, you don`t need to spend on a respray if it gets dropped or goes sideways down the street.  However the newer bikes (anything after LC350) do look better with the plastics fitted.

By the way that bike is tidy looking

Do the higher handlebars annoy you? I always find that having more weight over the front is a good thing.

It looks better than mine anyway! Mine is still 'banana yellow' as I bought it 4 years ago. I'm never posting any pics of it...ever!

Great project.

That section of tree trunk, I take it is used as a stand? I use something similar when dropping forks out.

Thanks

That looks great!

Where did your exhausts go?!

I removed everything in order to fit the swing arm but the left hand exhaust is still there (and the right one lay on the floor)

Great project.

hahaha.... it used to hold the bike but now the hammer took over! take o closer look under the bike...
until I fit the shock with the extra mounting...

hehe... cool... gets a more "streetfighter"-style...  first i was planing and testing with a superbike-handlebar like you... but i like the sitting position with the handlebars down on the bridge...^^
the plastic in the frame-triangle is a piece from the original? the black part of it... ?? is it laminated together?

i had tested an swingarm from the 125 too...an other style of swingarm but 125 (there are 2 or 3 different swingarms mounted on the 125s..)
i didnt like it... looks good but the original swingarm has the grease-nipple... and the 125 not... and the chain-adjuster looks a bit cheap...so i let it original...

theres just one thing that i dont like at the moment on this bike... your tail is a bit too long...the rear-end stands directly in a straight line (or even a bit over) over the outer point of your wheel... sorry its hard too explain... it musst be a bit shorter with an slightly angle to the front... just a bit... so that the rear wheel is optical the rearest point of the bike...
at the moment theres a big empty place between your wheel and the tail... and it looks like your wheelbase is shorter than series...
with numberplate and turn-lights it could get better...but a bit Motocross-touch will stay^^

make a good picture direct from the side an make a try on photoshop...
but its just my taste...

A small update as I have managed to put the swingarm in place with no freeplay. I also installed the linkage along with the 3MA shock and mounted the external reservoir on the side.
It looks better but its very stiff! The swingarm is very wide so I have to use spacers for the rear master cylinder.
At least the chain is aligned perfectly! I also have a tzr125 rear shock so I can just replace the springs if 3MA one is too stiff at the end

Wow, looks terrific with the new swingarm in there.
No problems with the banana shape arm fouling the seat subframe?  I noticed that you didn't relocate the two lower braces like most banana arm conversions.

no so far its fine, the rear subframe is way too far from the swing arm. I dont understand for which braces you are talking about though...

If you look at the upper shock mount you can see a brace that goes from the top shock mount to the seat subframe.  It was relocated from the just above the rearset bracket.
